Three things that are best stored in a drive-up unit

Drive-up storage is different from indoor self-storage as each unit has a parking bay, so you can drive right up to the door. This is obviously more convenient, but it is particularly suitable for storing certain types of objects. Here are some of the things that are best stored in a drive-up unit.

Furniture

There is no reason why furniture can't be stored indoors — except that you will have to lift it from your car to your storage room, and then back again when you need it. This is a particular problem if your room is a long way from the car park, or on an upper floor — just getting your items into the lift can be an issue. It is so much easier if you can reverse your car up to the door, and lift the items directly from your boot to the unit. This goes for all bulky and heavy items as well as furniture — large boxes of tools or electrical equipment can be awkward to move around, and are best carried over the shortest distance possible.

Vehicles

You will also need to rent a drive-up unit if you want to store your vehicle. This includes items such as bikes and boats, as well as a car that isn't used much or needs some attention in the future. There are many advantages to putting a vehicle into storage rather than keeping it at home — it frees up the space, keeps the vehicle secure and away from the elements, and may even be cheaper to insure. Collectors find storage facilities are affordable places to keep their vehicles, and a drive-in unit will also give room for you or a mechanic to work on the car. None of this is possible with an indoor unit.

Rolling stock

Finally, drive-up units are the right choice if you need regular access to your goods. If you are running a business and using the unit to store your inventory, you may need access on a daily basis, or even more frequently. You will want to be able to drive directly to your store and load and unload as quickly as possible. A long walk to your unit is wasted time — and that can mean wasted money.
